The ADRENALINE MOMENT:
When I had written:http://www.sportskeeda.com/football/the-football-chronicles-those-days-when-we-played/ I never thought this moment would come. But then, life has its own way of bringing joy to you.
It was one of the best feelings I
have ever had. I had scored the winning goal of the match. Or rather I had put
my team ahead and the goal turned out to be the winner. It was a horror-filled game
with one of our opponents dislocating his wrist; a scene which evoked pain and
horror. The game started around noon when the sun was in its glory and we were
all sweaty.
The opponents wore blue jerseys
and we wore black. They pinned us in our own-half in the starting few minutes
and the game was getting very rough. The big strong opponents did not give us
an inch of space and pushed (literally barged) us at every opportunity as if all they
intended was to hurt and injure us. Our complaints fell on the deaf ears of an
indifferent referee. All he gave us were grave stares whenever we looked at him
expecting a foul or a lecture for the opponents to play like humans, and not
bulls.
They took the lead with a clever
goal; the ball just rolled past our keeper who was wrong-footed. This happened
just after one of our opponent player had landed on his left wrist with his full
body-weight dislocating it in the process. Our heads dropped but we were
determined to equalize and it did not take long. The forward from my team on the right took
advantage of a missed clearance and passed the ball into the net and we were level.
In
the second-half we were calmer and started to pass the ball around with
confidence. Two clear-cut chances were missed and I felt we were going to
either lose the game or it would go to penalties. And then the moment came.
My teammate lifted the ball in the air
and I made myself free, ready to pounce on any loose ball. The oppostion
defenders awaited for their keeper to come and punch the ball out but he
flapped at it and did not get a clean contact. The ball fortunately bounced
towards me. My eyes lit up and I directed the ball into the goal with my right
thigh.
I
could not even hear the referee’s whistle. Each member of my team was in a
frenzy. I ran across the field intoxicated by adrenalin, shrieking my lungs out
giving a high-five to all my teammates
and almost teasing the opponent striker. They almost equalized a minute
later but we held on for a memorable victory and a place in the Quarter-finals.
